While the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) is well known for its clinical expertise as the number one ranked U.S. orthopedic hospital for eleven years running, Sharp and HSS identified the academic medical center’s Innovation Institute - a team of experts shepherding the HSS portfolio of novel concepts and inventions - as a major area of differentiation.

To raise awareness for HSS leadership in fostering game-changing orthopedic innovations, Sharp and HSS pinpointed a compelling launch within the pipeline to proactively promote: a partnership to create wearable technology in order to improve human motion assessments, performance training, and next generation rehabilitation.

Partnering with VR Electronics (VRE), maker of Teslasuit and other advanced human-to-digital interface technologies, HSS launched the first collaboration aimed at fundamentally improving human movement and rehabilitation using full body garment sensors. The collaboration combines HSS expertise in musculoskeletal health with Teslasuit’s smart technology - and provided a platform to share HSS’ continued role as a hands-on partner in fostering innovations to advance orthopedic care.

Through this effort, Sharp has been able to secure coverage for HSS’ partnership with VRE with orthopedic trade outlets such as Healio, Crain’s New York Health Pulse, Becker’s Spine Review, Orthopedic Design & Technology, BoneZone, and Orthofeet as well as technology trade publications like VR Focus and AZoSensors. Coverage has positioned the partnership as “the next generation of wearables” and bolstered HSS’ profile among both industry peers and prospective technology partners alike.
