Dekton by Cosentino at Dwell on Design, New York

by Sharp | October 14, 2014

Last week at the inaugural Dwell on Design NY, Sharp coordinated a panel discussion on the intersection of technology and material innovation for Cosentino. Lorenzo Marquez, VP of Marketing at Cosentino, was joined by Breeze Glazer, ASID designer and Sustainable Design Leader at Perkins + Will, and Matthew Bremer, AIA architect and founder of Architecture in Formation, to discuss the many interpretations of this rich topic, led by moderator and Dwell editor, Erika Heet.

The event was particularly fitting for Dekton by Cosentino, which was launched last October with a month-long exhibition at the AIA Center for Architecture. The company has a history of bringing together unique and emerging voices, and this session was no different.

Reflecting on his firm’s approach, Bremer spoke of recognizing the balance between tried-and-true artisanal products and boundary-pushing technologies in their work for a wide spectrum of clients. Glazer also spoke of careful material selection, with a focus on how the health and wellbeing of building occupants should be paramount.  When presenting Dekton by Cosentino, Marquez illustrated the R&D investment dedicated to creating not only the new ultra-compact surface, but also the state-of-the-art manufacturing process and facility.

With a standing-room-only audience for the session, it was a subject that clearly resonated with the audience of architects and designers at Dwell on Design NYC, and that we are sure to see in editorial over the months to come.
