Power to the Mommy Bloggers
by
September 19th, 2011

There’s been a lot written about the influence and reach of mommy bloggers. As online and social sites increasingly become a part of our day-to-day media relations, I’ll admit that this group of self-proclaimed savvy mommies is one that I have been aware of and pitched from time to time but never really held in too high regard. How credible are they really? Aren’t they just after free samples? Does being a mum instantly make you an expert on everything and anything? Yet, as I prepare to begin my maternity leave, I’ve surprised myself by spending many a sleepless night scouring these blogs for product ideas, tips and reviews. Why on earth after weeks of research, several store visits, and being just one click away from buying our crib, am I now hesitating because some mom I never met, who lives in CT, wrote a bad blog post about it? But then three other moms left comments with similar feedback. Surely it must be true.

Maybe I underestimated the power of “word of mom” before. There are certainly those who have built large loyal followings and extremely profitable business models out it.

I wonder if all the mom-to-be readers feel as clueless as I do? Here are a few favorites from my midnight musings…
